Biography and Career
After becoming the 9th Kyokushin World Champion in 2007 Texiera entered K-1 in 2008 as a virtual unknown. His first K-1 was against Japanese fan-favourite Yusuke Fujimoto. He won the fight by right cross KO. Texiera then won the 2008 Japan GP after knocking out Tsutomu Takahagi in the first round and two unanimous decision wins over Tsuyoshi Nakasako and Keijiro Maeda.
He was then placed in the 2008 WGP eliminations against Japanese veteran Musashi. He won by unanimous decision and qualified for his first World Grand Prix championships.
In the quarter finals he fought his first non-japanese oppoenent, Errol Zimmerman. Texiera surprised the world by beating Zimmerman throughout the fight until he was dropped in the third round and ended up losing the fight by decision.
In his last fight, in Yokohama he fought French Knockout legend, Jerome Lebanner. Texiera was noticeably winning the fight up until the final 30 seconds as Lebanner wobbled him a couple of times. Through controversity the fight was declared a draw twice until Ewerton beat the K-1 veteran, super-star by decision in the 5th round.
After working a lot on his boxing skills Ewerton fought the new Japan GP Champion, Singh Jaideep. Ewerton however was not able to summon what he had trained for as he fought through two more extension rounds to finally beat Jaideep in a close match.
In the quarter finals of the K-1 World Grand Prix 2009 Final Teixeira lost by first round KO to Alistair Overeem
